The Knowledge of Personal Hygiene Behavior During Menstruation Based on The Sources of Information to Adolescents in SMP N 1 Gamping

Abstract

Good personal hygiene behavior during menstruation is needed by teenagers. Poor personal hygiene behavior during menstruation can lead to infection of the reproductive organs. Prevention efforts can be done by providing the right information. Sources of information about personal hygiene during menstruation can be obtained by teenagers from parents, health workers, friends, sisters, mass media, teachers, magazine dan television. This study aims to determine how knowledge about personal hygiene behavior during menstruation is based on providing information at SMP N 1 Gamping Sleman Yogayakarta. This research is a descriptive study involving 62 students of class VII and VIII of SMP N 1 Gamping Sleman Yogyakarta who are already menstruating. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire on sources of information and personal hygiene behavior during menstruation. The analysis in this study used univariate analysis. The results in this study showed that as many as 87% of adolescents had the most positive knowledge on the question of the use underwear and the most negative knowledge on the question about skin facial and hair hygiene during, namely 38,7%. Sources information about personal hygiene during menstruation were obtained from parents (79%), health workers (69%), teachers (47%), mass media (44%), sisters (27%) and peers (23%). The conclusions that can be drawn from the results of this study are that adolescents have positive knowledge as much as 74,1% and negative knowledge about personal hygiene behavior during menstruation as much as 25,8%, sources of information about personal hygiene behavior during menstruation are mostly obtained by adolescents in SMP N 1 Gamping Sleman is from parents (79%) and at least from peers (23%).
