Abstract

Abstract


Background: Old age is a phase of life that is definitely experienced by every human being. This phase is marked by a natural decline in physical, cognitive, and psychological abilities. By definition, the elderly are individuals over 60 years of age. In this phase, various health problems often arise, one of which is hypertension. This condition occurs when systolic blood pressure increases above 140 mmHg and diastolic above 90 mmHg, which disrupts blood vessel function and inhibits the supply of oxygen and nutrients to body tissues that need it. Stress triggers an increase in peripheral vascular resistance and activates the parasympathetic nervous system response. Physiologically, the pituitary gland receives a threat signal, the brain will release endocrine hormones into the bloodstream. Objective: to determine the relationship between stress levels and BMI with the degree of hypertension in the elderly in Rawa Makmur Village, Palaran Samarinda Health Center Area. Method: This study is a quantitative research type with a descriptive correlational design through a cross-sectional approach, namely examining the relationship between stress levels and BMI with the degree of hypertension in the elderly in the Rawa Makmur sub-district, Palaran Samarinda Health Center area, which was taken at one time without any further intervention, the population in this study was 204 people. The sample in this study was elderly people with hypertension who met the inclusion criteria. The sample used was 135 people. The sampling technique used in this study was a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling approach. This study will be conducted in the Palaran Health Center area, Samarinda City, Palaran District, East Kalimantan Province, which was carried out from March to April 2025. Results: Respondent characteristics, the majority of respondents were aged 60-74 years as much as 88.9%, the majority of female gender as much as 64.4%, the majority of normal BMI as much as 51.9%, the majority of married marital status as much as 57%, the majority of elementary school education as much as 29.6%, the majority of unemployed jobs as much as 51.9% and stress level grade 1 as much as 37.8%, the majority of long-term HT 1-5 years as much as 81.5% and the degree of HT, the majority of HT Degree 1 as much as 62.2% and There is a relationship between all variables and stress levels with a spearman who test value of 0.000 <0.05. Conclusion:. There is a relationship between all variables and stress levels with a Spearman Who test value of 0.000 < 0.05
